Lineations Series
Walking is a practice of connecting mind and body with place, and in these works, is a kind of purposeful inefficiency. What does our body teach us when wearing a different pair of shoes, when walking barefoot, on unfamiliar terrain, with an injury, when backtracking, or under pressure not to fall? Here the simple connective act becomes an opportunity for embodiment.
Lineations was a solo show at Riverhouse Gallery in downtown Toledo, Ohio. The show opened as part of the Sculpture X Social Practice Conference curated by faculty at the University of Toledo School of Art. The conference included a new outdoor work by Mel Chin at the Toledo Art Museum, and a series of panels and exhibitions at Bowling Green State University, the University of Toledo.
