Monarch Migration is an interactive experience where the viewer rides a bicycle that generates the movement of large monarch butterfly wings. The piece celebrates the 1700 mile journey Monarch butterflies make each autumn to winter in central Mexico. This is a mysterious inter- generational trek where the butterflies who return to our state are the ancestors of those who left. As humans we are part of this process through planting and maintaining native flower landscapes, avoiding fertilizers, and keeping track of the ways that we share the world.
